{"id":12989,"date":"2020-08-17T15:07:34","date_gmt":"2020-08-17T19:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gfgsmtl.qc.ca\/?p=12989"},"modified":"2023-07-03T09:29:29","modified_gmt":"2023-07-03T13:29:29","slug":"a-crowdfunding-campaign-to-break-social-isolation-in-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gfgsmtl.qc.ca\/en\/a-crowdfunding-campaign-to-break-social-isolation-in-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"A crowdfunding campaign to break social isolation in youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 14\u00a0Big Brothers Big Sisters\u00a0organisations across Qu\u00e9bec are launching a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/BBBSFundraising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crowdfunding campaign<\/a>\u00a0today to help youth overcome the social isolation caused by the events of the past months.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign,&nbsp;hosted by&nbsp;Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/laruchequebec.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Ruche<\/a>&nbsp;platform, obtained the support of the provincial government\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondsmilleetun.com\/en\/covid19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mille et UN Fund for Youth People<\/a>. The Fund thus has committed to doubling every donation made, up to $50\u202f000.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the beginning of the school year, it is still difficult to determine and evaluate all of the repercussions the COVID-19 pandemic has had on young people. However, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Montreal organisation has observed that many vulnerable&nbsp;youth&nbsp;have found themselves even more isolated, as&nbsp;they are or&nbsp;have been&nbsp;deprived of&nbsp;contact with people of confidence (teachers, social workers, \u2026), as well as the support and guidance these people bring them.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0<em>At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Montreal, our mission is to create a preserve a precious mentoring relationship that youth need to overcome difficult moments. A mentor\u2019s support can help combat dark or depressive thoughts, as well as the stress and anxiety brought upon by periods of&nbsp;<\/em><em>uncertainty, such as we are living in now<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb&nbsp;explains&nbsp;Maxime&nbsp;Bergeron-Laurencelle, the organisation\u2019s executive director.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As fundraising opportunities have been limited by the pandemic, the organisation\u2019s financial resources are diminishing whereas the number of&nbsp;youth&nbsp;in need of support is on the rise. This is why Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s 14 Big Brothers Big Sisters organisations have decided to unite forces in the face of this exceptional situation. As of today, they are launching a fundraiser to break social isolation in youth.
