About Us<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For over 110 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been championing the health and wellbeing of youth. We step in before it\u2019s too late, to help prevent the physical and mental effects of adverse childhood experiences. We ensure children as young as 6 are supported by caring adults as they overcome these adversities, helping them to do better in life \u2013 physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and academically Our Intervention helps ensure children as young as 6 are supported by caring adults as they overcome these adversities, helping them to do better in life.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

What we do<\/strong><\/h3>\n

WE CHANGE LIVES!\u00a0<\/strong> We match young people facing adversity with trained adult mentors in 1-1 or group mentoring programs. Mentoring is an important way to give youth experience with these essential back-and-forth relationships, developing them into healthy young people better able to deal with and overcome life\u2019s adversities.<\/p>\n

The trauma from adverse childhood experiences can last a lifetime, and without early intervention, can define a lifetime. But we can help prevent the physical and mental effects that childhood trauma can lead to. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we champion the health and wellbeing of youth by stepping in before it\u2019s too late, to give every child a chance to reach their full potential.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Across Canada<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There are over 86<\/strong>\u00a0Big Brothers Big Sisters<\/strong> agencies across Canada. 73%<\/strong> of them reach out to rural, remote and Aboriginal communities.
\nLast year, a total 1.2 million hours of youth mentoring activities<\/strong> are offered to nearly 33,709 young<\/strong> people, thanks to the 18,227 adult volunteers<\/strong> recruited, trained and monitored by BBBS.
\nThe entire BBBS movement has over 1000<\/strong> employees across Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>
